Helen Dacy Trout (b. 2001) is a painter and printmaker based in Richmond, Virginia.

She graduated with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2026. Through calligraphic drawing and painting, she abstracts language into illegible visual forms, transmuting words into new artifacts. Her work embraces abstraction as a language of its own, a way to expel somatic sensations which evade immediate understanding. Whether through illegibility, non-linear thinking, or the subconscious impulses unlocked by music, Trout’s practice is a spiritual and emotional impulse, building a world that celebrates clarity, doubt, and the fleeting intensities of the present.
