Abstractness is freedom to me, and it’s very important to create a space of openness for people to approach my work and respond naturally. Authority can be suffocating, so I like to make work that feels free and loose and with vitality.
Marleigh Culver explores memory, emotion, and the subconscious through intuitive abstract paintings that balance spontaneity with quiet intention. Guided by a deeply personal process, she allows paint to move and settle with minimal intervention, creating organic forms that evoke landscapes, feelings, and symbolic narratives. Shaped by experiences of both love and grief, the works reflect a softened sense of resilience, where compositions emerge from fleeting impressions and emotional memory. Through layered color and instinctive mark-making, Culver creates contemplative paintings that give form to the unseen and the deeply felt.
