Ashley Blazer

Ashley Blazer explores the space between painting and sculpture, often working outside of the confines of traditional, two-dimensional, rectangular paintings.

I create under the premise that nature possesses an ultimate wisdom. I am curious about the natural world as a grand model of the basic tenets of coexistence (harmony, balance, connectedness, collaboration) and about the rewards of living by these principles. From patterns and designs in a single cell, visible under the lens of a microscope, to constellations in the sky, evidence of nature’s omniscience abounds. I examine humans through this lens — as part of nature and thus, as vessels of truth. Is looking inward the clearest path to making sense of the world around us? What can be gained from looking deep within ourselves - our-souls?

I am exploring the space between painting and sculpture, often working outside of the confines of traditional, two-dimensional, rectangular paintings. From building asymmetrically shaped canvases to “painting” with textiles, my paintings reach into the third dimension. The process of making art, for me, is a pursuit of understanding the inner source, fueled by a belief that this process of discovery is the way toward meaning and fulfillment.
