THE JAMES AND OTHER WATERS, B MILLNER

OPENING RECEPTION:

THURSDAY, JULY 17 | 5 - 7 PM

5601 CARY STREET RD

Bond Millen Gallery is excited to announce "The James & Other Waters," an exhibition of new work from acclaimed artist B Millner.

B. Millner is a long-time supporter of the James River Association and a dedicated advocate for the conservation of the James River and its watershed. Through his art, Millner uses his voice to champion the river we all depend on.

In partnership with the gallery, the artist will donate 50% of the proceeds from this exhibit’s sales to the James River Association.

Artist Statement

This exhibition has been a labor of love. I have long been drawn to water, probably going back to my childhood, when my family lived on the quay of the bay in Izmir, Turkey. I could walk across the cobblestone street in front of our house and fish from the sea wall. I never caught much, but there was always the dream of hooking a levrek, the Mediterranean Sea bass.
I have long been a kayaker and have paddled waters as near as the James and as distant as the Li in China. My son Mike and I have gone on several kayak expeditions in Alaskan and British Columbian waters. My wife Tina and I have paddled among the islands of coastal Maine. With no experience, my son Chris and I attempted the rapids of the James. We survived, but spent more time in the water than on it, and learned the hard way the power of the river.

The James has always been my favorite water, and I am blessed to live within sight of it. Some of these paintings depict water visible from our back deck. Others are favorite scenes from other locales.

To be able to capture my passion in paint is a joy for which I am always grateful, and it is a pleasure to share it with you.
