Amelia Baxter

Amelia Baxter is an artist based in Richmond, Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the School of Arts and Architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles and is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Crafts/Material Studies with a specialization in Ceramics at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2023 she received the UCLA Kay Nielson Drawing Award. She has been working in the mediums of sculpture, ceramics, painting and drawing since 2015.

 

Her current focus is ceramics, more specifically Nerikomi, a Japanese technique of building patterns with pigmented clay bodies. Her recent solo exhibitions include High Noon Chorus at Praz-Delavallade, Los Angeles, California and Wishing Well, a collaboration with Some Clouds, a seasonal, curatorial gathering based in Los Angeles, California focused on the temporality of exhibition and display. She has participated in several group exhibitions in Los Angeles, including Step & Repeat at Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Earth House Hold at Murmurs, and Duets in Color Breathing at Spy Projects.
